Getting a web page, making money online, hosts/domains monetizing your site and or adds for your site all explained

This blogs 1st post:
I started becoming interested in the prospect of owning my own website or being a "dot com” before the turn of the century and began attending seminars on how to get a website, web design, earning from banners and the like only to find that I was mostly being pitched packages and do it for you media development for tens of thousands of dollars. I walked away from all of those seminars and weekend courses a bit discouraged and thankfully without buying into anything just yet.

I decided to buy an old Hewlett Packard computer out of the newspaper and just experiment with it. It was an old computer without anywhere near the memory or things computers come with these days but I got it for $50.00 and added memory to it and started to take it apart, put it back together and started learning and exploring the Windows 95 operating system and making starting web pages by some code I got from a book, typing the code in a text file app that came with the OS and saving in the desired format. There, now I had a webpage saved on this computers hard drive and I had done it all without spending allot of money.

I found a way to get a web page online free from someone in a community college computer class I was taking and had WebPages hosted online for free in no time. I later bought my own top level dot com domain name and got an inexpensive host a website.

Now there is search engines getting listed on search engines like yahoo or msn and the code that you can write or copy and paste to get better SEO or your results posted soonest on the 1st page etc. for free (this has to do with the code) their are also paid services to get your listing listed or ranked better. I will post that information later.

A few months after buying the old computer out of the newspaper and experimenting with it I got a job at the Hewlett Packard company and after three and a half years left what I thought was an excellent company to take a risk and work for some equally as big companies abroad on groundbreaking real raw R&D but unknown areas of business and the ink jet world. I am now a United States Patent holder as well as inventor on European patents and publications. I also belong to the international association of webmasters and designers, hold several copyrights and work in senior position at new venture capital technology company, and am still well under the age of 40 and was just over 10 years ago working jobs that allowed me to go surfing most every day and before that was (and still am) an aspiring musician just playing my guitar mostly and had long hair. My point is this is not rocket science but there are so many avenues out there and I get so many questions from people or see so many people go down the path of buying a domain or hosting from the company they see advertise on the super bowl commercials and get stuck in something when there are so many other options out there. I have had several websites over the years and have designed them for folks and I do have a website a top level "dot com" now that I have had for 7 years since 2002 and have experimented with different things as far as advertising and monetizing the site.

This blog / web page is intended to help those with questions or interest in getting a website, fixing their website or making money online and what programs are real and not scams and how they work explained simply. I get tons of questions all the time about online related things, websites, how to fix web sites, where to get a website and how much does it cost how to earn money etc. and this blog will hopefully explain allot give direction and make it easy to post updates. Now that being said, costs vary for web design. If you look at the wall street journal website case, they spent over 70 million dollars just on upgrades to their website and HP spent around 6 million upgrading theirs at on point. But you can get started and get a web page for free and even design it yourself with some of the easy to use online file managers and drag and drop editors. I will list these places and websites as well as other hosting packages and options on this blog. Just a quick note on the free websites is you wont have your own top level domain name such as "you.com" it will be more like "geosites.com/you" or you.homestead.com whereas they host you on their domain or distribute a sub domain to you and host their own advertising along the top of your page thus making it free to you but maybe not always desirable in the long run. That’s ok they give you the option of upgrading to buying your own domain name (which can be as low as $2 - $15) and hosting packages starting at 4.50 per month. I know of some even better deals and can post them on this blog and will later.

Google adsense explained:

The best way to find out and learn about google adsense is to go directly to google for the information google.com/adsense.
There are a lot of things out there that promise money or talk about adsense. I have not used them personally and have no idea what these programs do or if they have any real value. The good thing about google adsense is that it is a good advertising program from a reputable company. I tried other CPC programs in the early days only to find they were not good reputable programs.

The cool thing about google adsense is they deliver relevant content to your site which is what I like for spaces not being used. You can filter the ads that you allow to be displayed if you want with a competitive ad filter if you do not want traffic leaving and going to another similar business to yours. I recommend that you read all the tutorials and terms of use from google when going for this. As far as I have seen it is not lots of money but a few extra dollars here and there. I am sure it might be more for other publishers but I do not know specifics.

Keep in mind that you might want to advertise your website someday and it is a good way for your advertising budget to get ads out there with a reputable and good system that is robust.
